Pre-Congress Workshop 1
Essential Gastrointestinal Anastomosis Workshop
Date: 26th October 2024, Saturday
Time: 08:30 AM to 12:00 PM
Venue: Academia, 20 College Road, Singapore 169856
Introduction
Surgical residents are expected to be competent in the safe creation of bowel anastomosis and trouble-shooting stapler-related problems. These skills are not specifically covered in resident teachings. Thus, there is a need to provide a safe environment where such techniques and skills can be learned through didactic teachings and hands-on porcine model simulating human intestines.
Course Objective
The aim of the workshop is to provide a structured curriculum to deepen the surgeon’s fundamental knowledge and principles of gastrointestinal anastomosis. Emphasis will be placed on evidence-based techniques and practical tips on how to create safe anastomosis and avoid anastomotic leaks.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
(1) Distinguish between the different types of gastrointestinal anastomosis
(2) Gain familiarity with creating upper and lower gastrointestinal anastomoses
(3) Discuss about managing practical problems, including trouble-shooting stapler malfunction, management and treatment of suspected leaks
